World’s first study on Guinness-listed Monfort Fruit Bats on Samal Island set
DAVAO CITY—A US scientist would be undertaking this month the first extensive study of nature’s “angels of the night” among the fruit bats in the 300-meter-long Monfort Cave on Samal Island off the Davao Gulf in southern Philippines, and he would be assisted by another US expert in the rehabilitation of abandoned mines which have mostly been repopulated by bats.
Dr. Rick Sherwin, a biology professor at the Christopher Newport University (CNU) in Virginia, United States, said the study would mainly seek answers to “broad-based” questions, “such as their feeding, resting and flight patterns, where they go at night, their reproduction pattern.”
